Gerard Ahlgren is a highly accomplished professional trumpeter, bandleader, and music educator based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is best known for his versatile trumpet performance style and his leadership of regional musical ensembles, including a premier funk tribute band.

Musical Expertise & Performance

Gerard holds a Master’s Degree in Music Performance with a focus on Jazz Studies from the McNally Smith College of Music. He is incredibly versatile and plays a wide range of musical styles:

  • Genres: Fluent in jazz, blues, Latin, fusion, R&B, funk, and classical music.

  • The Tower of Power Tribute Band: He leads this Minneapolis-based ensemble, faithfully recreating the iconic, high-octane horn sounds and rhythms of the original legendary funk group.

  • Local Ensembles: He regularly performs live with prominent regional acts such as the Blue Water Kings, Soultight Committee, Northstar, and the Moonlight Serenaders.

  • Theater & Touring: He has played professionally for productions at the History Theatre and the Old Log Theater, and performs with national touring groups like Bruce Vantine's Cornerstone Chorale & Brass.

Music Education & Leadership

Beyond the stage, Gerard is deeply dedicated to training the next generation of musicians in the Twin Cities area:
